Every year, up to 60 000 tourists visit Sagarmatha National Park to see Everest—and leave a lot of trash behind in the mountains. Local waste infrastructure can't cope with the amount of litter and refuse. So local NGOs Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee and Sagarmatha Next are spearheading a solution to crowdsource the recycling process, offering tourists a chance to carry down shredded waste as they leave the national park area beneath Mount Everest. So far, more than 10 metric tons of shredded waste has been brought down for recycling. Follow @martinedstrom for more on the story.
