# HSBC # BlackHistoryMonth

This October, we celebrated Black History Month by kicking off a series of vibrant designs inspired by the weavers and cloth makers from across Africa and the Caribbean. Today, we’re proud to be continuing the conversation around black heritage by showcasing the beautiful craft and history of Aso Oke.Dating back to the 15th Century, Aso Oke was traditionally handwoven by the Yoruba people of Togo🇹🇬, Benin🇧🇯and Nigeria🇳🇬, where the skills needed to create this cloth were passed down through generations of women. Today, it’s a valued craft of many men and women across Yorubaland. Despite ever-changing fashion, Aso Oke is still a symbol of tradition and status, and recognised as the most prestigious cloth of any Yoruba social occasion.#HSBC #BlackHistoryMonth
