Making its way from southern India, Madras cloth became a sensation in the Caribbean islands, such as Jamaica, St Lucia and Dominica, where it is used for national costumes. Using local flowers, berries and even bark to develop their own personalised dyes, each island has adopted the Madras in their own unique ways to reflect the vibrancy of their own tropical paradises. Madras is painstakingly home-spun and is a point of pride that no two plaids are the same. Diversity, identity and kinship are woven into every square of the Madras cloth. #BlackHistoryMonth
