案例简介:“I would describe my visual aesthetic as riding this fine line between the luminous and the grotesque, at once bodily and familiar yet alien,” explains artist @lauracatherinesoto (Laura Soto).Laura creates sculptures that mimic the natural world, in direct and indirect ways, utilizing human-made materials: large forms built of fiber that transform under the weight of media amassed. Her creative, excavation process is one of continual ebb and flow between creation and destruction which can take years to resolve.“Shells and rock and sediment are my eternal muses. The emulation of nature comes from this experimentation — mixing things together that ‘shouldn’t be’ mixed, observing the resistance and layering up concoction upon concoction. I hope that the response to my work runs the gamut from transcendence to repulsion, much like the experience of exploring a tide pool, a sense of curiosity and confusion… an invitation to explore.”Photos by @lauracatherinesoto
