Extra is the Whataburger add-ons, modifications, substitutions and all the ways you can personalize your meal, but it’s also the extra that bi-cultural Hispanics process, give, live by, and are influenced by. Being U.S. born and growing up in the most diverse generation to-date, has not only altered their world view, but redefined the culture in which they live. They know more, have access to more, can relate to more and are shaped and influenced by more. They are without limits and live in a cultural fluidity that transcends boundaries. And it’s this intrinsic way of being that brings authenticity to the way young, bi-cultural Hispanics create their music, art, fashion and even their Whataburger. For Whataburger, "Ponle tu Extra" has a dual meaning. While "Adding your Extra '' can literally mean you can customize your favorite Whataburger to your liking, add avocado, change mustard for mayo, substitute regular jalapeños for grilled ones, toast both sides, etc; it also speaks to Whataburger's fans and team members that "Give their Extra". "Ponle tu Extra" means you care. It means you are passionate, creative, fearless, and talented in your own unique ways. This is why, during Hispanic Heritage Month, Whataburger wanted to create an original song that reflects these attributes. Taking advantage of the popularity of the genre fusion, the song “Ponle tu Extra” was created with a blend of regional and hip-hop genres.
