案例简介：Photos by David Chancellor @chancellordavid / In Kenya's Reteti Elephant Sanctuary, a veterinarian team headed by the extraordinary Stephen Chege quietly and quickly assembled to assess the future of an orphaned elephant called Long’uro. In less than 24 hours, Mary, a caregiver, had established a powerful bond with the new arrival that now stood calmly in a makeshift operating room as anaesthesia slowly coursed through his broken body. Once he was asleep, the team could see in detail the damage caused to his trunk and face by hyenas that attempted to drag him from a well he had fallen into. The surgeon carefully cleaned his wounds, removed loose and torn skin, and neatly closed the lesions on his trunk, which hopefully would allow it to heal quickly in the African sun and limit the possibility of infection. For the following days Mary would keep the wound clean, and the veterinarian would often check in on his progress. Mary waited for Long’uro to wake up, and then stayed with him as he recovered from the procedure. I visited often for the next weeks and months and continued to document his recovery. The final frame was taken in January 2021, about 9 months after the first image. I’ll continue to follow his journey through life. To see more follow me @chancellordavid.
