I photographed Cleveland superfan Jim Stamper (seen here) in 2018. He has one of the largest known collections of Chief Wahoo (the now retired logo of the team) memorabilia. The change will take effect starting with next year's season. The team follows in the footsteps of the Washington Football Team, which changed its name last year after years of protesting from Native American activists who wanted teams and fans to understand that caricatures of Indigenous people are racist and harmful. The United States still has several other pro sports franchises with Native-themed names, including the Atlanta Braves, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Chicago Blackhawks.
