案例简介：Photo by @joelsartore I Tasmanian devils like this one @australiazoo have the strongest jaw-strength-to-body-size ratio of any land animal, and they are the largest carnivorous marsupials in the world. Sadly, this incredible species is at risk of extinction due to a type of cancer known as devil facial tumor disease. This is one of the only forms of cancer that is contagious, and can be passed from one individual to another through biting during feeding and mating. The disease mostly affects older devils, but their passing leaves younger populations of devils vulnerable to other threats, including foxes, habitat destruction, and domestic pet attacks. The disease has spread across approximately 70% of Tasmania, causing a rapid decline in wild populations, but thanks to ongoing protection efforts the western parts of Tasmania are still disease free.
