Less than a day after the Perseverance Mars rover landed on the surface of the Red Planet, mission teams at @NASAJPL released the first photos of the rover’s descent as well as its first views from its new home in Jezero Crater.The images, from left to right:- High-resolution image aboard the descent stage captured Perseverance being lowered by its skycrane- Perseverance’s first full-color image of Mars sent back by the rover’s Hazard Cameras on the spacecraft’s underside- A look at one of the rover’s six large wheels on the Martian soil- The descent stage holding Perseverance falls through the Martian atmosphere as seen by the @UAHiRISE camera aboard the Mars Reconnaissance OrbiterA primary objective for Perseverance’s mission on Mars is astrobiology research, including the search for signs of ancient microbial life.
